What is a Phobia?
Fear is a sensation that all individuals feel irrespective of age, gender, martial status etc. Fear is a normal emotion that is felt whenever an individual senses hazard or in circumstances when one feels that something awful is going to take place. Fear that normal individuals have are very slight. But in certain people fear is so intense that it offers extreme anxiety that interrupt one’s life. A phobia is termed as an unrelenting, irrational and disabling panic felt in certain conditions in which the victim experiences uncommon things
The victim feels uncomfortable and will always be in fear of next attacks that he needs to cope with. A phobia differs from fear as it is an intense panic felt due to a location, condition, animals and objects. Specific phobias are unreasonable and unjustified panics that occur in specific conditions. Most specific phobias include fears due to animals, tall buildings, illness, heights, water and most common the fear of death.
This is believed to be the worst of all phobias as there is high risk of getting this disorder. It is also termed as anxiety disorder. This includes a feeling of extreme fear when the victim is presented before the public in situations like performing any activities. The huge site of audience increases the feel of terror to victim and it increases as many situations he faces. Such victims tend to avoid these circumstances but still they live in that fear. A best example is the feeling of how do you look and what will others think about you and what if you got insulted etc.
This is another type of phobia that is due to fear of public places and open spaces. Agoraphobia can also develop further into panic disorder. People with Agoraphobia fear thinking of situations and locations where there won’t be instant assistance available to them if they get panic attack.
What are the symptoms of phobias?
Different symptoms associated with anxiety are seen in people with phobia. These symptoms can be either mental or physical. These symptoms exhibiting fear and anxiety may be milder in form or they can also be in the form of panic attacks. However people affected with phobia have some common symptoms that include the following:
• Difficulty in breathing
• Irregular heart beats
• Pain in the chest
• A feeling of uneasiness
• Severe sweating
• Fear of illness
• Fear of Death
• A feeling of emptiness
• Fear of being aloof
• Fear of fainting
When to opt for treatment?
As discussed, phobias are very common they infrequently cause distress or immense interruption to daily life. For example, if an individual is having fear of big snakes, it won’t interrupt your day-to-day living as snakes are seen rarely in big cities. And if you have a phobia from buildings, this would certainly interrupt your life as cities are full of tall buildings. You have to decide first and then move ahead. If it does not barge in your routine living there is no indispensable need of opting treatment.
